Rabbi Yaacov Zamstein – Kerem El Messianic Synagogue
Deuteronomy 16: 9-12 “You shall count seven weeks. Begin to count the seven weeks from the time the sickle is first put to the standing grain. Then you shall keep the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God with the tribute of a freewill offering from your hand, which you shall give as the Lord your God blesses you. And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, the Levite who is within your towns, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow who are among you, at the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there. You shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt; and you shall be careful to observe these statutes.”
Rabbi Zamstein joins us again today to update us on the Upcoming Jewish Holidays! Beginning with a minor holiday celebrated in Israel on May 14-15 is Yom Yerushalayim – or, Jerusalem Day! This celebrates the 59th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War. Rabbi says, if we were in Israel, there would be parades, festivities, ceremonies, and prayers.
SHAVUOT is main holiday – Beginning Thursday nightfall, May 21 and concluding at nightfall Saturday, May 23, which is marked by the end of counting the Omer. This two-day holiday celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, and is observed by studying Torah and prayer all night, and includes waving the wheat stalk because it is the harvest of wheat. Also included in this holiday is reading the Book of Ruth! Shavuot is a Celebration of God’s Word, because God gave the people of Israel the Ten Commandments on this day.
Shavuot also coincides with Pentecost. Peter proclaimed the Messiahship of Yeshua, and 3000 were saved!
Rabbi Zamstein says, because we rent space from the Life Center, Kerem El will celebrate Shavuot on Shabbat (Saturday May 23rd). All are invited to attend and share this special time with us.
Rabbi shared the ministry he has at Rock Road Chapel and at the Okeechobee Correctional Center. In conclusion, Rabbi prayed the Aaronic Blessing.
