Sue Chess, CEO of Carenet of the Treasure Coast joined us today to give us an update as to how the abortion pill is harming the lives of the women who find themselves pregnant and choosing abortion.
Sue says:
The bad news:
- According to Guttmacher there was a 1.2% increase of Abortions in 2025.
- More specific to Florida, 140,000 women traveled out of state to obtain an abortion after the 6 week limit for our state made it illegal here.
- Telehealth abortions have increased, even those states that have seen a drop in out of state abortions have not really seen a drop. There are more and more women turning to the unsafe practice of ordering a medical abortion online without ever seeing a doctor. This means that they have not ruled out an ectopic pregnancy or established that the pregnancy is in the uterus.
- Overall, Guttmacher finds that in states with abortion bans, 91,000 abortions took place, an increase of 22% over last year.
- Infertility is a broad term for a disease that is defined by the male or female reproductive system being unable to achieve pregnancy. In the U.S., about 11% of women and about 9% of men of childbearing age have infertility. We need to answer the why of that.
But the Good news:
- Care Net continues to stand ready to give clients information on all their options. We have seen 40 saves as of the end of August.
- About 75% of those who come for an ultrasound will choose life. We continue to need another Registered Nurse on staff.
- Legislators continue to push for more regulation on telehealth abortions.
- The push to gain more testing on waterways is increasing as Infertility rates rise.
