John Nelson, Families Recover
John wants to tell us once again, just how grateful he is to God for taking care of him and the ministry that he runs – FAMILIES RECOVER is going into its 13th year, helping men, women, children, and families to overcome and recover from the ravages of addiction. When a family member is in addiction, the whole family is affected.
John once again thanked Jonathan for calling him when one of WCNO’s donors offered an automobile to the station. John seeks out good cars for single moms with children who have been sober for at least one year. So far, 5 cars have been given to mom’s with kids.
This is the time of year when Fundraising is greatly needed. John says it is really hard to compete with some of the larger, better known ministries. But the need he has is great.
Every year, John takes a couple hundred young kids to the Miami Heat basketball game. This FOSTER KIDS CHRISTMAS EVENT requires about $15,000 to accomplish. Between now and the end of November, these funds need to be raised! If you are able to help with any amount, you can donate through his website: www.familiesrecover.org.
John spoke a bit about the human trafficking problem right here in our own neighborhoods. He wants all of us to be aware that when our kids start taking drugs, they let down their guard and are susceptible to being trafficked. John shares about his wife Jenny. She was trafficked. She was on drugs. Together he and Jenny started Families Recover, but after a time, Jenny went back to drugs. Six years ago, she overdosed and died. John pursues, with all that is in him to do everything he can to help people to combat their addictions.
John thanks God for his life and for what he can do for others. Jesus is ultimately the answer.
John is always available to answer phone calls from someone needing help.
