"the good news station"

Hello friends this is Tom Craton writing today.

I have a friend named Daniel that I have known for several years that is in need of a kidney transplant.  16 years ago he had a life saving kidney transplant from a donor who was deceased.  Now the doctors tell him that in order for him to receive another transplant he really needs to find a living donor.

For the last sixteen years Daniel has faithfully followed his doctor's orders, maintained a healthy lifestyle and kept himself in shape which has allowed him to exceed the doctor's expectations.  On average transplanted kidneys last between 10 and 12 years.

Currently Daniel's kidney function has dropped to 20%.  The average waiting time for a cadaver donated kidney I am told is five years.

If Daniel is unable to find a living donor he may not live long enough to receive a cadaver donated kidney.

There are several factors to determine if someone would be a suitable match for Daniel beginning with his blood type of (O+).

So, I am asking for two things today.

The first is for everyone to pray that Daniel will be successful in finding a donor.

The second of course is that if you are blood type (O+) and the Lord lays it upon your heart, to consider becoming a donor.

There are three advantages to receiving a living donor.

1. There are not enough deceased donor kidneys, so getting a kidney from a living donor is quicker than waiting for a deceased donor kidney.

2. A kidney from a living donor is completely healthy.  They are known to work better and longer than deceased donor kidneys.

3. If the kidney is donated from a relative, the tissue may be a closer match and lower the chance of rejection.

If you would like to be considered as a donor please contact Tampa General Hospital with the reference number 09676305.
